- The city of Fort Pierce is telling the owners of the Humane Society that they need to get their act together and fix all the violations or they will have no choice but to get out by the 16th of September.
- The problem: The problem is that the Humane Society hasn't been taking care of their building or their animals and the city has finally had enough of it. The lease is up at the end of the month anyway but they are laying down the law and saying if they don't fix it they will be out on the 16th.
- The people: The city of Fort Pierce, and the workers of the Humane Society

- This article is about UF students getting assaulted. All these reports are from UF campus, my guess is there's tons of students off campus getting assaulted by these same people but just haven't said anything about it. One of the guys was arrested upon charges but was realized a couple days later.
- The problem: The problem is students are getting sexually assaulted on campus all the time and very few things are being done about it. They have been sending alerts out but more needs to be done than that.
- The people: UF students, and students in general.
Florida Elementary school kids sent to ER after eating weed candy by Cheryl S. Grant
- https://www.gainesville.com/news/20190910/florida-elementary-school-kids-sent-to-er-after-eating-weed-candy
- This article is about how a kid brought candy to school that was infused with weed and he had no idea. He was a polite kid so he shared with his friends so they all ended up in the ER. The school notified the police and medial services when they figured out what was going on. The kids went to the ER but everyone ended up okay.
- The problem: The problem is these kids could've had really bad side effects from these candies. Also the school could get in trouble because it happened on their property, yes they didn't provide it but I'm sure they could still have a lawsuit on their hands one way or another.
- The people: The parents of the students, the school.

She complained of pain in her shoulder after the incident. They took her to UF Health hospital where she passed away the next day.
- The problem: The problem is people need to pay more attention when driving. I'm sure that person who hit Mrs. Long didn't mean too but we're all guilty of not paying enough attention when we're driving especially in parking lots.
- The people: anyone who has a license
Hi Jaycie,
ReplyDeleteYou found some interesting articles. I heard about the weed candy on the news, which I found surprising. Now, schools would not allow students and teachers to bring candy into classrooms to share. I think that in elementary school candy is one of the many rewards students look forward in receiving. Especially, the day before the break when teachers plan activities such as watching Christmas movies and eating popcorn the whole day. I wonder what teachers do now to reward students.
Hello Jaycie,
ReplyDeleteYour post was very interesting. The article about the student getting sexually assaulted on campus is very scary. I have received email notifications about this story from UF. I read it was the RA who sexually assaulted the girl in Jennings Hall. The RA got out of jail on bond due to having "good grades". What makes this story even scarier is the victim knew the RA previously. This story needs to be publicized so that more students are aware of what could happen and to be aware of their surroundings. A lot of your articles had to do with violence in the area which is scary and should be a reminder for everyone to be careful. Your post was very well organized and easy to read. Good job!
Hey Jaycie,
ReplyDeleteThese articles are all very pressing problems, and I'm very glad you drew my attention to several of them that I hadn't heard of before. I think personally the weed candy was the story I was least familiar with. It seems insane to me that weed is so accessible nowadays that kids could mistakenly take some to school. I also hadn't really heard the story about the officer's sexual assault charges, and the state the military must be in to allow for this type of thing, or even the type of person who may do something like that, is a huge problem. This was a great post. Thanks.
