1.When people chew with their mouth open
WHY it exists: It has been said that your food tastes better if you chew with your mouth open. Also some people don’t realize how loud they’re actually chewing until someone points it out to them.
2. When my roommates don’t fill up the brita after they drink all the water in it
WHY it exists: Because even though they finished it, maybe it was your turn to fill it up, or they were in a hurry and didn’t have time to fill it up.
3. When I specifically ask a table if they need anything else from me (as a server), they respond no, and then go ask another server to get them something
WHY it exists: These guests completely forgot they needed something from me and instead of tracking me down, it’s easier just to ask someone who is walking by
4. When there is food to be ran at work and people want to stand around and sing instead of running it
WHY it exists: Because even though people are standing around for a second, they still have things to do for their tables. Sometimes you just need a second to take a breather
5. The fact that I’ve been to the gas station 25 times this month yet they still ask for my ID when I buy a pack of blue games
WHY it exists: Even though the guy knows I'm well over 18 it is his job and if someone higher up checked the cameras he could be the one getting in trouble
6. The fact that don’t use blinkers when changing lanes
WHY it exists: The GPS doesn’t always work as well as it should, and if you’re awful at directions (like me) sometimes you don’t have time to get over and turn your blinker on.
7. When people honk at you for letting someone merge in front you
WHY it exists: People can’t always see what’s happening in front of you, so it looks like you’re slamming on your breaks when indeed you’re letting someone over so an accident doesn’t happen.
8.That I have to pay $50 for a parking decal to park in front of my house
WHY it exists: Students park in the spots in front of my house, so even though it’s an extra $50 if decals weren’t required no one would buy a UF decal and everyone would park on the streets surrounding UF causing a lot of chaos.
9.The fact that I have to pay $150 for an access code that I will never use again
WHY it exists: Even though this access code is expensive, it still is a valuable tool for the class and although it expires after the semester, the stuff you’ll learn within the book lasts a lot longer than that
10. People who are rude when I am a customer/guest and they are in fact getting paid to assist me
WHY it exists: You never know what kind of day that person is having, yes they’re getting paid to be there but sometimes life hits you and you can’t do anything about it
11. When my neighbors are screaming and come to find out they’re having a party they didn’t invite me to
WHY it exists: Turns out it was a ‘boys night’ and when they all get together they can’t help themselves when they get rowdy.
12. Telemarketers calling my phone 7 times a day
WHY it exists: Because eventually on that 7th phone call someone will answer and give into whatever they’re selling. It only takes one, just like Professor Pryor says if you reach one person you did your job.
13. When I specifically ask the kitchen to change their gloves because my guest is severely celiac and they end up finding a shell pasta in with their rotini
WHY it exists: Even though these cooks did in fact change their gloves and washed their hands the cooks before them premade the pasta and when they dropped it in the water didn’t catch the tiny shell pasta mixed in. Although it’s a scary thought accidents do happen.
14. When I walk up to a table and before I can finish my beverage recommendations the guest cuts me off and says “water”
WHY it exists: A lot of people when they come to a restaurant don’t want any alcoholic beverages for multiple reasons, one being because of religion and another just because they don’t drink so they immediately cut you off before you have the chance to offer them a wine sample, or if they’d like to try one of our new margaritas
15. When the line at the Starbucks in the library is out the door but I can’t order ahead because they don’t have that feature
WHY it exists: Starbucks are always busy but this one seems to have people in it 24/7, so adding this feature would cut down the in store line but they’re pick up line would outrageous so it’s easier to just keep it the way it is.
16. The fact that I’ve had 3 flat tires in the last 2 years
WHY it exists: Gainesville/Jacksonville has been doing a lot of construction and construction works are careless when it comes to nails, so driving on a main road or a highway, it's rare you will walk away with good tires
17. When I ask someone to repeat themselves and they don’t make an effort to raise their voice
WHY it exists: Often sometimes people think they’re talking louder than they actually are, so even though I ask them to repeat themselves, they think they’re talking louder when in reality they didn’t raise their voice at all
18. When people honk at me for walking in the crosswalk when I had the right away
WHY it exists: Even though the car has a green light, especially in a college down you have to watch for pedestrians walking across as your turning right. Pedestrians have the right away in the crosswalk when the little white man is lit up
19. When homeless people have the audacity to ask me for money
WHY it exists: People give homeless people money on a daily basis so they think if they ask me enough I will give in and give them money, yet I am indeed a broke college student so I have zero money to give.
20. That a beer is $14 at Tortuga
WHY it exists: Tortuga is such a big and well known festival they have the means to charge whatever they want for a beer. With the security they have you can’t sneak any alcohol into the concert itself and who goes to a country concert and doesn’t drink? Absolutely no one, so people pay the $14 for a beer and go on with their vacation
Reflection: Part one of this assignment was a breeze for me, I found many things throughout my day that bug me or that bugged people around me. The hard part was figuring out why it exists and why it seemed to bug me or other people so much. Where the root of the problem was and is it something that I can fix or it something that someone else has too. I did enjoy this assignment because it made me go out of comfort zone and think about things I normally wouldn’t, I had to think of why the bug existed not just why it bugged me which is a completely different ball game.
