Who: Through my interviews I found that there is many people who fall outside of this market. I've talked to many people around the country and there doesn't seem to be a trend to where exactly people who are obese live, they're spread out. I've noticed that the schools who serve unhealthy breakfast and lunches have more kids who seem to be over weight.
What: This need differs from many, for instance when I was little before I would hit a growth spurt I would get a little chubby, that's how you knew and after a couple months I would shoot up and not have that fat anymore, so for kids how do we know this is not what they're doing? They go through so many phases it's often hard to tell. Now adults on the other hand don't go through growth spurts like children do, so they're a different story. This is why I interviewed a wide variety of people with different backgrounds.
Why: The need of the outsiders is different because they don't have any of the issues the insider has, they don't have to worry about everything they put in their body because it doesn't effect them like it does the people inside the boundary. I also interviewed people who were not obese to see their outlook on eating the right things and exercising and they have different outlooks because they simply don't have to worry about gaining or losing the weight like the people inside the boundary do.
Inside the boundary
Who: People who are obese
What: The need is to get healthy/lose weight
Why: This need exists because too many people are having healthy issues because of their weight.
Outside the boundary:
Who: Anyone who is at a "healthy weight" or any who is "skinny"
What: The need is not to get healthy/lose weight
Why: Sometimes people care more about living their life than living a healthy life, but they don't realize it until it's to late.
Hi Jaycie,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that people who have problems with obesity are all over the world. I think you can start targeting a group of people in your community and then slowly grow your audience. I also agree with you that it can be hard to tell if kids will be obese in the future. I think instead of having a target audience as people who have a problem of obesity go after certain age groups. For example, your solution can be targeting high school students, you can influence people at a younger age making a healthy diet and exercising a habit.
Hi Jaycie,
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting that you mentioned schools as being one of the places that was not helping children fight their obesity because when we were school-aged children there was a big push on healthy eating. I feel that not enough is invested in childhood obesity, especially when there is a place where children gather and can be easily taught, like a school cafeteria.
Hi Jaycie,
ReplyDeleteI really liked your thought process on obesity and how to combat it. I definitely think it is an issue and I like how you addressed what could be considered obese and what might not be. I think that it is a big issue and something to focus on. People have different body types and it is important to realize that all because someone has a bigger build does not necessarily mean they are obese. I look forward to hearing your solution in more detail.
