1. I chose to read the Wright Brothers by David McCullough. What surprised me the about these brothers was they had nothing to go off but imagination and they taught the world how to fly. They had no electricity, plumbing, and even TVs yet they never gave up on their dreams. They knew they could fly and they weren't going to stop until they should the world they could! They were true entrepreneurs.
I admired their aspirations. If I had just 1/4 of their aspirations I could conquer the world, they were so determined. When I was read this book I could feel how bad they wanted to succeed. These guys knew that every time they took off on their adventures they could end their lives, yet it didn't stop them. They wanted to fly so badly they would kill themselves doing it.
I admired everything they've done! They had an opportunity and they ran with it! I would have to say I would do the same thing if I had the chance!!!
The Wright brother's like many other entrepreneurs failed before they succeeded. Frequently the planes failed because the unexpected winds or hindrances that would happen, but after any good entrepreneur after they failed they went back to the drawing board and starting thinking of ideas to make their plane fly.
2. The Wright brothers never gave up and I believe that is hands down the reason they succeeded. I believe that without each other they would've had succeeded. They both had very good assets that brought value to the table.
3. I wasn't so much confused when reading this book but just in awe of how two men with no more than High School Degrees, could be so smart to create such an awesome thing. Not to say that you need an education for everything but growing up in this day and age that's what I've always been taught. You HAVE to go to school to get an education but these men used their common sense and genius abilities and shocked the world, including me!
4. I would ask them why create something that fly's? Where did this idea come from?
My second question would be did you ever come to a dead end in your journey where you thought you would just give up? If you did what made you push through and keep going?
5. I think their idea of hard work was to never give up even on the hardest days when you're having the hardest battles, it will always be worth it in the end! I mean these guys created a plane that could fly, that has to be rewarding when you finally get it in the air and get in back on the ground safely! I share that opinion completely, hard work always pays off.

ReplyDeleteHello Jaycie,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post because I also did my assignment on the Wright brothers. I completely agree that it is very surprising that the brothers taught themselves how to fly without any prior education, skills, government funding, etc. It is a good point to bring up that at the time there were no TV because I did not put that together. I also wrote about their determination and how they never gave up! I hope to be as tenacious as them one day. After reading your post we had a similar question regarding how they never felt the need to give up. To your question regarding ‘why something that flys?’ the answer started when Orville got sick from the contaminated water. Wilbur read books to him as he laid in bed. The books were about birds and flying. Their dad also had a fascination for birds and this is where the idea was created.
Hello Jaycie,
ReplyDeleteI think never giving up on an idea or concept is a characteristic entrepreneur should possess. Like what Dr. Pryor said the Wright Brothers gather things that already existed and assemble them. Most entrepreneurs that fail and could not learn from their mistakes and decide not to get back up aren't those who are successful. Instead, entrepreneurs that are willing to take a risk and get back up are those who are successful.
Hi Jaycie,
ReplyDeleteI did not realize that when the Wright Brothers invented the airplane they did not have electricity. It is interesting to envision something that uses completely new technology, and shows how much imagination and passion the Wright Brothers truly had. I agree with the first question you would ask, why make something that flies? I would want to know where the passion for going in the air came from.

Hello Jaycie,
ReplyDeleteI also read about the Wright Brothers and completely agree that their determination is definitely something to be inspired by. I was also very surprised that they did not have a college education and they just knew about bike mechanics. I find their tenacity and their story to be very fascinating because I think especially they were against all odds. This is because as you said there was no electricity, TV, or anything to help them.
