When I was in elementary school my favorite thing in the world was to make Boondoggle key chains. Now at the time I didn't know that's what they were called, I just grabbed some cord and started making them. Anyways, I made a little business out of them, kids in my class would pick the colors they wanted, the key chain they wanted and then I would take it home make all of them and in the next day or two I would bring them back and sell them for a dollar or two each. Now at the time I didn't think anything of it but looking back now I applaud myself for being such a businesswomen at such a young age. I remember coming home with a list of chains I would have to make for the night, but I loved it so much I would come in after playing outside and make as many as I could for that night. I got so good at making them people could pick up to four colors if they wanted, those were a huge hit! I honestly forgot all about it until I was cleaning my closet out a couple years back and actually found a piece of paper with kids names on it, the color they wanted, as well as the design, there was even a couple of dollars in the baggie with it all! It was pretty cool to reminisce on the good ole times.
I chose ENT3003 well number 1 because I had another elective credit I needed to take so why not pick an easy A am I right? But I also chose this class because perhaps one day I would like to own my own business or start my own family business. My brothers and I have always talked about opening a brewery, and this last year Randall (my brother) took the first step in the process and has started making his own beer so we can find a good one to start with, we haven't had any luck just yet but we're getting there slowly but surely. So I figured why not take this course to learn a little about how to become a success entrepreneur. I'm hoping to get enough information out of this class that if we do ever open that brewery that I'm not 100% lost, and that I can have a little bit of confidence owning that business knowing I know a thing or two about entrepreneurship. I would also love to say that I didn't just pay over $300 for just an easy A, that I actually learned something and can use the information for my future plans.
Hello, Jaycie, I remember when Boondoggle keychains were popular and that everyone would have them on their backpacks. I never knew what they were called until today when I say your post. I think your idea of starting your own little business on something you enjoy doing is brilliant. I took this class thinking that I might one day start a business of my own too. Is there an occupation you would like to pursue besides starting your own business?
ReplyDeleteHey Susan,
DeleteI'm majoring in sports management, I'm not exactly sure what I want to do with that just yet. I am volunteering with the marketing department at UF this semester so I'm hoping that'll point me in the right direction of what I wanna do with my life!
Hello Jaycie, I really enjoyed reading your post. When I was in elementary school and middle school, I made friendship bracelets. Every summer people at my local pool would always offer to pay me to make them one. I also made Boondoggle key chains, but to be honest I had no idea that was the name of them either. We called it ‘Gimp’. It is very impressive that you started a small business out of your creations. I hope this course helps you with the goal of starting a family run business. I think your idea of a brewery is very cool and I am rooting for you!
ReplyDeleteHello Jaycie,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about your entrepreneurship story. Starting your own business that young shows great initiative. Also, noticing that there was demand for this product in your class and that money could be made is impressive. I think its really cool that you and your brothers are trying to open your own brewery. I imagine that it'd be very fulfilling if you guys could accomplish your goals and I agree with you that having this entrepreneurship class will be helpful to you in doing so.
